Penny Oliphant is a contemporary Maine artist and had been painting for over 30 years. Her studio is located in Pittsfield, Maine. Her work comprises of nostalgic, rural life of an age gone by throughout Maine and other parts of New England and Florida. She captures the atmosphere and brings it out in her oil paintings and colored pencil drawings.

Artist’s Statement

"I work to strengthen my visual language skills every day. From studying my own and other artists’ work — to observing the light as it changes throughout the day and night. I look for the subtle themes, repeated patterns and unexpected connections which emerge during the painting process.

I find value in the marginal places and objects along the highways of rural New England. Those images are most often the ones that compel me to capture the essence of it all on canvas."
